Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, held a phone call on Thursday, 8 January 2026, with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

Both sides emphasized the need to maintain communication with the brothers in the transitional administration in Damascus, to discuss the gravity of these developments and work toward addressing them.
In another context, views were exchanged on the situation in Yemen, where H.E. the Minister affirmed the importance of de-escalation in a manner that serves the interests of the brotherly Yemeni people.
The call also addressed general tensions and threats in the region, the situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, an assessment of the regional landscape, and the implications of regional tensions for both Iraq and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
