Press Statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the European Union for their issued statement regarding the parliamentary elections held in Iraq on 11 November 2025, and for the commendation it included of the Iraqi people’s exercise of their democratic right, as well as its clear support for the trajectory of political stability and the strengthening of constitutional institutions in the country.

The Ministry values the European Union’s acknowledgment of the efforts made by the relevant Iraqi Authorities, foremost among them: the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), the supporting government bodies, and civil society organizations, which collectively contributed to organizing a successful and transparent electoral process.

The Ministry also commends the European Union’s participation through the Electoral Expert Mission it deployed upon the invitation of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), and its role in assessing the conduct of the electoral process.

The Ministry affirms the Republic of Iraq’s pride in its growing partnership with the European Union, and in the EU’s supportive stance toward Iraq’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. It further underscores its keenness to continue joint cooperation in a manner that serves mutual interests and enhances security, stability, and development in Iraq and the region.
